Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Mrs Jo Shell is our inclusion leader.

Mrs Shell is contactable via the school office or by email:

A child or young person has a special educational need if he or she
has a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special
educational provision to be made for him or her.

A learning difficulty or disability is a significantly greater
difficulty in learning than the majority of others the same age.

Special educational provision means educational provision that is
additional to, or different from, that made generally for others of
the same age in a mainstream setting in England.

Further information can be found in the 'Code of Practice 2014'

Crazies Hill School aims to ensure that the special needs of any child are identified as early as possible, are regularly reviewed and are met within the normal classroom environment where practical.

Procedures for identification and subsequent support are based on the stages identified within the ‘Code of Practice’.

Our procedures include the following:

  • Where possible, links are made with SEND pupils at feeder schools before they join the school.
  • The provision for each child will be made on the basis of an assessment of his/her own individual needs.
  • There will be an initial assessment of each child during his/her first term at school.
  • Parents will be consulted and given the opportunity to be actively involved in the education of their children.
  • The school will seek the services of other education professionals where this is appropriate.
